Upcoming Opportunity: Color-Brave Communities of Learning and Practice with EmbraceRace

Would you welcome the opportunity to have a series of meaningful conversations with other caring adults, like you, who play important roles in the lives of 0-8-year-old children of color?

WHAT. Join EmbraceRace for a community of learning and practice (COLP) series, "Organizing in Defense of Early Racial Learning in Our Schools and Communities." Conversations will focus on what healthy teaching and learning about race looks like in early and middle childhood and how to come together to promote antibias, antiracist and color-brave education practices. We will provide the reflection questions and materials; the focus will be on sharing our perspectives and experiences and on learning together.

WHO. The current opportunity is for individuals who play meaningful roles in the life of at least one 0-8 year-old children of color (e.g., parents and other family members, educators and other child-facing professionals, among others). If you do not fit this criteria, please do not register for a COLP at this time. We welcome you to visit the EmbraceRace website and check out our many resources, subscribe to our newsletter, follow us on social media, and use our materials in other community conversations. Thank you for your understanding!

WHEN. This COLP cycle will run over 10 weeks, from the week of September 12 to the week of November 7. The series consists of five 1-hour group meetings, every other week. Between meetings, participants will engage in light assignments (e.g., reading a brief article, watching a video clip) as well as individual and interactive reflection with the group.

REGISTRATION. As part of registration, you will be asked to indicate which group you would like to join. Please note that the affinity groups are organized by racial identity of the caregiver joining. All the groups are for individuals who play meaningful roles in the lives of young children of color. Group options are:
  • People of Color Affinity Group, Mondays 8:30pm ET, on 9/12, 9/26, 10/10, 10/24, 11/7
  • People of Color Affinity Group, Wednesdays 12pm ET, on 9/14, 9/28, 10/12, 10/26, 11/9
  • White Affinity Group, meeting Mondays 8:30pm ET, on 9/12, 9/26, 10/10, 10/24, 11/7
  • FOR RETURNING PARTICIPANTS ONLY*: Educator Group, Mondays 8:30pm ET, on 9/13, 9/27, 10/11, 10/25, 11/8
  • FOR RETURNING PARTICIPANTS ONLY*: Parents of Multiracial Children Group, Tuesdays 8:30pm ET, on 9/12, 9/26, 10/10, 10/24, 11/7
*The last two options are groups for POC and White participants together, and at this time only individuals who have participated in at least one previous EmbraceRace COLP are eligible to join those spaces.

The cost of a spot in a group is $50, but to help ensure that cost is not prohibitive, sliding scale payment options range from $25-100. Please choose whichever option feels appropriate based on your current budget. Registration is non-refundable and non-transferable.

The COLPs are part of EmbraceRace's Color-Brave Community initiative. If you have any questions, reach out to us at colorbrave@embracerace.org.
