Resource List -- Parent Training

Parent training programs that incorporate NEAR research (Neuroscience, Epigenetics, ACEs, and Resilience). This list will continue to grow and you are invited to post additional ACEs, trauma-informed, and resilience building parent training programs in the comment section below.

Echo Parenting and Education

Teaches nonviolent parenting classes in English and Spanish. Emphasizing compassion and connection between parent and child rather than “quick fixes” to gain compliance, the curriculum covers brain development, nonviolent communication and setting limits with empathy. Parents learn to form developmentally appropriate expectations for their child as well as build emotional literacy skills so they can act as their child’s emotional “coach.” We teach self-regulation techniques for when parent or child experiences strong emotions such as anger. Court and agency referred parents are integrated with non-referred parents. ACEs and resilience surveys are included in all general parenting classes. Language: English and Spanish. Fee: sliding scale, no one turned away for lack of funds.

Parent Leaders: Cherokee Point Trauma Informed Community Schools (TICS)

Parents learn and train other parents about adverse childhood experiences, the impact of toxic stress and trauma, resiliency building, communication skills, coping skills, and social-emotional learning for themselves and their families. Language: English and Spanish. Fee: free.

Parenting For Resiliency: A Neurodevelopmentally informed approach to parenting

We believe children and parents do well when they can, and that behavioral problems are better understood through the lens of unmet developmental needs.  During this 4-session workshop we’ll help you understand your child’s emotional, cognitive, social and sensory needs through a neurodevelopmental lens, which will help you build resiliency in yourself and your child. Includes ACEs. Language: English. Fee: $300. Robbyn Peters Bennett, RobbynPetersBennett.org and Amy Bryant, LPC, ParentingBeyondPunishment.org

Positive Discipline

Recent research tells us that children are hardwired from birth to connect with others, and that children who feel a sense of connection to their community, family, and school are less likely to misbehave. To be successful, contributing members of their community, children must learn necessary social and life skills. Positive Discipline is based on the understanding that discipline must be taught and that discipline teaches. Certification and manuals available for parents, teachers, childcare providers, youth workers, and others. Language: English, Spanish, Chinese. Fee: $250 (online, DVD, or in person). Lead trainer Penny Davis incorporates ACEs and trauma informed approaches into the Positive Discipline curriculum for parents and educators.

Training for Divorcing Parents

After incorporating ACEs into court mandated training for divorcing parents, the classes became highly popular among judges and parents alike. For more info contact:

Hi - new member here! I'm a "trauma mama" who became an EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques or Tapping) practitioner to help me and other parents deal with the stress of parenting our challenging kiddos. I started Full Potential Parenting several years ago and offer an interview series (with various doctors and practitioners) and individual EFT sessions and courses. I also host the annual Healing our Children World Summit. I have an online course starting next week (first live call is Wed., Nov. 2) called Stress Relief for Struggling Parents: Using EFT to Help you Become the Parent you Long to Be. It's all about helping parents NOT get triggered by their children's behaviors. You can learn more here: http://fullpotentialparenting....0122-triggered-again

Hello Alicia,

I'm wondering: Are the majority of the group members (Parenting with ACEs) professionals who are helping parents recover from ACEs? --Or, are we mostly parents ourselves who are seeking support?

Hi Joan,

At this point I believe the majority of the Parenting with ACEs group members may be professionals helping parents recover from ACEs, however, as it is said within the ACEs community, "we are them."

Hello Alicia,

I'm wondering: Are the majority of the group members (Parenting with ACEs) professionals who are helping parents recover from ACEs? --Or, are we mostly parents ourselves who are seeking support?
