Louisiana ACE Educator Program (LA)

The ACE Educator Program of the Louisiana Department of Health, Bureau of Family Health advocates for ACEs awareness and prevention across the state. We recruit and train professionals and community leaders to give no-cost presentations on ACEs and resilience science to systems, organizations, and community groups.

WANT TO BE HAPPIER?? Introducing free sessions for adolescents and their parents/caregivers to reduce stress, symptoms of PTSD, improve resiliency and self-esteem!

Here's information about upcoming no-cost sessions we are offering for adolescents and their parents/caregivers to reduce stress, symptoms of PTSD, improve resiliency and self-esteem.  We have mind-body skills groups and mindfulness sessions starting as soon as next week, and we are seeking referrals to support adolescents 12 and up and their parents/caregivers, particularly those who may have been exposed to violence, abuse, crime or have incarcerated parents in the State of Louisiana.

Those interested in receiving these services can receive detailed information by signing up at SocialWorx.org/MB-interest

The three flyers attached are to:

  1. provide important details to you/your agency about the program (Adult Teen Flyer),
  2. offer demonstration sessions and ongoing support to community service providers (like your staff who have been on the FRONT LINES while possibly putting their self-care last) to allow them to experience the services they are referring clients to (CSP Flyer), and
  3. a flyer to attract the adolescent participants and their caregivers (Teen Template).

Other important details:

  • This project is funded by LCLE and SocialWorx private donors.
  • We are replicating a proven curriculum that has been successful worldwide and here in the US in reducing the impact of trauma.
  • We will be collecting pre/post/post14 data to demonstrate the services reduce symptoms of stress and PTSD, increase mindfulness and increase self-esteem.
  • We are also asking about ACES in adults, with a focus to support breaking cycles of intergenerational trauma from ACE-affected adults.
  • Incentives are offered for those who complete the program and the data collection, but all who are referred will be served as resources allow.

Sessions are starting as soon as NEXT WEEK! And we are offering staggered start dates and services nearly every day of the week to accommodate busy schedules!

If there are additional agreements or documents concerning confidentiality needed to establish a formal referral relationship for teens and their parents, please let me know.

These are non-therapeutic services, but I have over 45 pages of published research citations where this curriculum and similar have been used in war-torn and disaster-affected areas like Gaza, Bosnia and Haiti with tremendous improvement of stress and PTSD symptoms.

We are working with the Center for Mind Body Medicine, Discovery Family Resource Center, Toni Bankston, LCSW, BRCAC, and others to support our community with transformative supportive services to improve resiliency and reduce the impact of multiple natural disasters, the pandemic, and the multitude of other socioeconomic stressors faced by Louisiana children.

üAll facilitators have passed a criminal background check as required by Louisiana Children’s Code.

üAll of our online tools and data collection apps are HIPAA compliant, completely confidential and encrypted end to end while static or in motion.

Should you have any questions or wish to discuss referral pathways further, please feel welcome to contact me, Vonnie Hawkins, on my cell at 225.278.1855.  I look forward to speaking with you at your earliest opportunity!
