Good Monday morning everyone. As we are passing the half way mark for the month of August, traditionally, children would be getting restless as their return to school would be a fortnight away.
In many of our Caribbean and CARICOM jurisdictions 2020 and perhaps 2021 will be remembered as periods of great diversity. While some territories barely interrupted the education cycle during their relatively moderate Covid-19 fight, others with more alarming infection and death rates closed schools for in excess of 18 months as a precaution to protect children and staff alike.
What is certain is that with vaccines becoming more available due to COVAX allocations and the generosity of the US Government, more CARICOM territories seem likely to reopen schools in September with a greater confidence of safety for their charges.
Hence, this post is relevant to all in the education sector as teachers, some of whom are dealing with personal loss and uncertainty, meet again with students whose young lives were upended through this once-in-a-century (we hope) event.
