#TraumaInformedCanada Update

Welcome to all of our new members of Atlantic Canada ACE and TIP Network.

Thanks to Denise Connors for sharing our community with her recent contacts at the Brain Builders Lab in Ottawa hosted by Canadian Center for Substance Abuse and Alberta Family Wellness Initiative.

Welcome others from my Twitter clan. (@eperryinsights)

Welcome to those Canadians who are existing members of ACEs Connection who have joined us here.

When I initiated this community in the spring of 2017, I envisioned a place where Canadians (especially those of us in Atlantic Canada where I live) could have an opportunity to connect, share what's happening in our work, and collaborate on larger initiatives.

It has taken a while to get momentum, but I think we're on our way.

We're in this together - professionals, first voice, and community sector members alike. We're all humans first with our own backstories. Different knowledge combined only makes us stronger.

My goal is to make ACEs knowledge universal. I've been spreading the word on my own for 5 years. Anyone interested in collaborating on community projects, let me know. I have lots of ideas but need more hands and funds to implement.

In the meantime, some of us (especially survivors) in my Twitter clan are working together to advance #TraumaInformedCanada  The attached graphic is our first project. Thanks to Laura Corbeth for contributing her talent.

Canada has a population of less than 37 million. Trauma is prolific in our Indigenous, Black, and Immigrant populations. Less commonly admitted, trauma is also pervasive in our settler communities. We are all still affected by our historical colonial child rearing philosophy.

To heal our country we must heal our people, and to do that first we must acknowledge the source of our dysfunction and reset, reconcile, repair our roots, individually and collectively.

That's the work I'm about.

I'm so thankful you have joined our ACEs Connection community.

Please feel free to share your vision with the rest of us.

Elizabeth Perry
