Input Invited for Trauma-Informed Toolkit for Legal Professionals

This is an opportunity to participate in the development of a Trauma-informed Toolkit for Legal Professionals. This is a Canadian initiative.

The developers are actively seeking input from law students, lawyers, judges and court users. Engage with them at https://traumainformedlaw.ca/

From the site:

Myrna McCallum of Miyo Pimatisiwin Legal Services with Golden Eagle Rising Society identified the need for a trauma-informed practice resource tool kit for members of the legal profession. With funding from the BC Law Foundation, a working group of lawyers, law students and community members are working to develop this educational resource.

The Toolkit will serve as an educational resource for legal professionals on how to create a trauma-informed practice through their practices, policies and engagements with traumatized persons. It will also include a self-assessment tool for practitioners to help identify their own risk factors and coping mechanisms in relation to the potential presence of vicarious trauma symptoms as a result of their exposure to traumatized parties, graphic evidence or other psychologically difficult subject matter.

This Toolkit is being created for law schools, law societies, law firms, and the judiciary, as well as investigators, adjudicators and community advocates. We welcome feedback from all community members including court users, law students, legal educators, lawyers and judges who have questions about applying trauma-informed principles within the practice of law.

We will be conducting a survey to ask how you define trauma-informed; how a trauma-informed approach might benefit those seeking legal advice, support or justice; and how this approach might fit in your practice area.

If you would like to engage with us or provide feedback online, find us online at https://traumainformedlaw.ca/

FYI, Myrna has approved the posting of her initiative on our Canadian ACEs and Trauma-Informed Network Community.
