Presentation: Integrating Trauma-Informed Care: An Educational Intervention on Racial Trauma for Medical Trainees
Presenter: Kara Alcegueire, MD
Presentation: The presentation focuses on my TIC curriculum, which is centered on racial trauma. This year, the curriculum is being implemented in three residencies within Johns Hopkins. Following the implementation of the curriculum, I am now creating a study on its impact on residents. I am in the early stage of the project, and I would be grateful for the group's feedback on my approach to examining learner assessment through the Kirkpatrick model. I also would like their opinion on the scalability of the project.
Presenter Bio: My name is Kara Alcegueire, and I am a second-year medical education research fellow at Johns Hopkins within General Internal Medicine. My research and educational interests are on health equity through the lens of medical education. My fellowship has allowed me to start creating educational and institutional interventions that could improve the support of healthcare trainees and providers with marginalized identities and the quality of care for patients with marginalized identities. One of my first steps to improve the quality of care for racial minority patients is the creation and implementation of a TIC curriculum that focuses on racial trauma. This curriculum is a first step to refining our understanding of trauma and its role in racial disparities for patients of color.
