Training OpSAFE in Poland

I just finished our second training in Poland and will fly out soon to Romania. This training was all in Ukrainian. Let me tell you about the inspiring trainees that attended. Some came from refugee centers in Poland, others traveled from Ukraine to receive the training. Many of them were from areas that are now destroyed or under Russian control They all regularly work with children and are doing their best to help them in the midst of very uncertain times. They have now earned their...

As we have demonstrated in our work at the Center for Community Resilience-- equitable access to trauma-informed systems and supports that help children and families prevent adversity, heal from trauma and most importantly provide a foundation from which a community thrive is what resilience looks like! As an 'antidote' to our Pair of ACEs tree, we unveiled our latest resource The Resilience Tree. Much like the Pair of ACEs...

The tragic shooting at a grocery store in Buffalo, New York, is sadly the latest in a number of horrifying murders. An analysis of the flooding, which killed more than 400 people in Durban and surrounding areas in the eastern part of the country, found that the intense two-day storm that caused it had a 1-in-20 chance of occurring in any given year. If the world...

To prevent mass shootings, stop relying on the myth of motive; start doing forensic ACE investigations

Because in his 180-page diatribe, 18-year-old Payton Gendron provided a motive for shooting 10 people in Buffalo, NY, on Saturday night, police didn’t need to search for one, as they often have other in mass shootings. But if we want to prevent mass shootings, using motive as a way to prevent mass shootings will just get you a useless answer to the wrong question.

Free Webinar: A Forward-Facing Approach to Optimal Performance

A Forward-Facing Approach to Optimal Performance When I was 11 years old, I tried out for junior league baseball. I did not make the team. It was devastating for me because I had played first string catcher and batted third in the lineup since I was eight. However, the tryouts were held the year after my parents had finalized an acrimonious divorce and I was bounced between my two parents multiple times during that year. During the tryouts, I was in the outfield and one of the coaches hit a...
