Wrestling Ghosts is the fourth and final film in the Transform Trauma with ACEs Science Film Festival series.  The film can be watched, free of charge, on PACEs Connection from Friday, June 11th through Sunday, June 13th where it will be streamed all weekend.

The streaming will be followed by a Zoom discussion with Wrestling Ghosts Director, Ana Joanes, and the co-sponsors of the Transform Trauma with ACEs Science Film Festival (CTIPP, PACEs Connection, & the Relentless School Nurse) on June 15th at 7p.m. EST (Pre-Registration Link).

A description of this powerful documentary below written by the film’s director, Ana Joanes:

Wrestling Ghosts is a raw, intimate, and heart-opening documentary about parenting, childhood trauma and healing. Wrestling Ghosts follows the epic inner journey of Kim, a young mother who, over two heart-breaking and inspiring years, battles the traumas from her past to create a new present and future for her and her family. In this intimate portrait, Kim shares deeply personal moments that most of us keep secret in shame, and invites us into her counseling sessions. With her counselors’ help, Kim opens up to new ways of thinking and uncovers what has blocked her from experiencing the joy and connection she most desires. She learns about the impact of childhood trauma on her brain, and how, tragically, this very damage causes the trauma to be passed on to her own children. Armed with knowledge and compassion, she pursues new strategies to heal herself.”

Ana Joanes, Director/Producer of Wrestling Ghosts: Ana Joanes is a documentaryAna Joanes maker dedicated to inspiring conscious action and systemic change through film. Her previous works include GENERATION MEDS, an exploration of our fears and misgivings about mental illness and medication, and FRESH, which celebrates the farmers, thinkers and entrepreneurs who are reinventing our food system. Before dedicating herself to filmmaking, Ana was a lawyer. She founded Reel Youth, Inc., a video production program for youth coming out of detention and other underserved youth. Ana is the mother of three children, and with WRESTLING GHOSTS, she hopes to contribute to a shift toward a more compassionate world.

This is one of the most informative, beautifully done, exquisitely-paced-from-trauma-informed perspectives sources of educational material out there on the role of ACEs, emotional neglect, complex PTSD and other long-term effects for children and parents. It highlights the impact of ACEs across generations and does so with a compelilng and compassionate story that skillfully identifies why effects of ACEs on parenting is not about blame - and what can be done about it.

Ana's documentary also shows how healing can happen, with an expert traumat therapist Victor Lee Lewis who uses EFT (emotional freedom technique).

It's one of my go-to resources for adults with chronic illness who are trying to better understand ACEs and the invisible ACEs that go with it in the form of parent-child relationships and developmental wounding.

This is a must watch.

thank you so much, the problem is that I am on 5 different computers so I
usually just bounce
off the PACE Announcements from the computer I am on when the mail comes in
the morning.
I will leave a PACE Front Page on each of my computers for reference now,
which will be easier then all
the bouncing around I am now doing....
I really appreciate you taking the time to let me know how announcements
are handled. So many
times we continually do it the hard way when just asking for help can point
to a faster easier way

Normally I find out about events after they happen, is there possibly an Event Page for the coming Month that we could refer to

Thank you

Veronique:
I hope you can join for this discussion and share this very comment. It's wonderful to hear how you share this resource to support/educate/validate survivors. I also think it's a really powerful film. While it's only one story about one family, and doesn't speak to/for all,  it opens up a needed conversation about why healing is necessary and hopeful as well as how expensive and challenging it can be even for families who have the resources to be actively  working at it. I've seen it several times and different things move me each time.

Warmly,
Cis

Hi Cis, Each story offers opportunities for needed discussion indeed even as every one of our stories is so unique. I'm registered for the 15th and look forward to the discussion and look forward to seeing you there. Here's to the ongoing awakening so that support can get built into the infrastructure in the oh-so-many-ways we already know about that help. hugs to you Cis! xoxo
