Join us October 27, 2021 for the inaugural event in our Trauma-Informed Criminal Justice System series, “The Relationship between PACEs and the Criminal Justice System”

Please join us for a new series entitled: Trauma-Informed Criminal Justice. This monthly series will feature conversations facilitated by Porter Jennings-McGarity, PACEs Connection Midwest and Tennessee community facilitator and criminal justice consultant, with special guests to discuss the need for trauma-informed criminal justice system reform. Using a PACEs-science lens, this series will examine the relationship between trauma and the criminal justice system, what needs changing, and strategies being used in this area to create positive systems change.

October Session, Wednesday, October 27th, 12:00 – 1:00 pm PST – “The Relationship between PACEs and the Criminal Justice System” with special guest Tony McGuire, PACEs advocate, associate trainer for the Community Resilience Initiative (CRI), and former instructor and tenured faculty member at Walla Walla Community College who taught a construction trades apprenticeship preparation (CTAP) class at Washington State Penitentiary.

While at the Washington State Penitentiary, Tony educated inmates about the science of childhood adversity, including the CDC-Kaiser Permanente Adverse Childhood Experiences Study, brain science, and how ACEs affected their behavior as children and adults. He worked with them to develop and build resiliency as they prepared for a fulfilling life and career. The subject of housing for people discharged from the criminal justice system was discussed today at the BAHN leadership summit.  I was telling others about this webinar and wondered if there's any way to share it.  Is it archived somewhere that I could access it?

It would be awesome if anyone, any affiliated organization, or PACEs itself was to join with NCH and my organization SEASCAT.org in backing BAHN.  Find it at bringamericahomenow.org.   The more organizations and individual people backing our proposed plans to end homeless, the greater the chances that we can get life-saving legislation passed.  Please check it out and sign on if you agree!

Looks great! Tony is a fantastic speaker and his work teaching technical skills to incarcerated men especially when he integrated an understanding of ACEs into the curriculum. Transformative! Looking forward to this conversation! Karen Clemmer
