James Redford, co-producer of Paper Tigers and Resilience, dies at age 58

This sad news was posted on the KPJR Films FB page Saturday afternoon:
It is with broken hearts and great sadness that we share the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Jamie Redford. Jamie was a light in this world who used his time and talent to raise social issues to the forefront through world class documentary filmmaking. He provided voice to those underserved and overlooked and amplified solutions that will provide hope to many for generations to come. Those of us who worked with Jamie, know that it was an honor - a once in a lifetime opportunity - to experience his ability to create media that had a global impact and inspired change. We will forever be grateful for Jamie’s ability to lead, to create, to care with kindness, fairness and an authentic style that embodied trust and confidence. Jamie was very special to us at KPJR Films and at this time we ask that you keep Jamie and his family in your thoughts and prayers and honor his life by continuing to impact the world with positive energy and hopefulness.
Redford died on Friday, Oct. 16, 2020. His wife of 32 years, Kyle Redford, told of his passing in a message on TwitterJamie died today. We’re heartbroken. He lived a beautiful, impactful life & was loved by many. He will be deeply missed. As his wife of 32 yrs, I’m most grateful for the two spectacular children we raised together. I don’t know what we would’ve done w/o them over the past 2yrs.
Redford and co-producer Karen Pritzker just released KPJR Films' latest documentary, "Playing for Keeps: The Upside of Downtime”, about the importance of play in the lives of adults. It debuted at the Mill Valley Film Festival on Oct. 9.
Redford was an amazing man who brought light and joy into the lives of countless numbers of people across the world. With Paper Tigers and Resilience: The Biology of Stress and the Science of Hope, he made an incredible impact in helping people understand why we humans behave the way we do, and how we can solve our most intractable problems by learning about and integrating the science of childhood adversity into our lives and work.
He also directed and produced Happening: A Clean Energy Revolution for HBO, Toxic Hot Seat, The Big Picture: Rethinking Dyslexia, Mann v. Ford and The Kindness of Strangers.
He was also co-founder and chairman of the Redford Center, whose mission, according to the center's website,  is to "use the power of positive stories to effect real change," which he did in a most remarkable way.
Our deepest condolences go out to his family and the friends who loved him.
Our hearts are also broken. He left this world too soon.

Hi, Hannah: Playing for Keeps just ended its premiere at the Mill Valley Film Festival. When distribution is set, we'll post information about it. We all want very much to see it!

Thanks for your speedy reply.  Yes, it would be good for all our members to be able to see it.  Perhaps we can create a Zoom tribute and show it to all out members that sign in.

I was moves and saddened by the untimely passing of Jamie Redford.  I would love to see his latest film since the topic of Play is such an important one in our life as adults.  We need to preserve our playfulness and creativity in order to find new resilience to deal with all the sadness that permeates our life in the current pandemic.  Only love connection and playfulness will help us create a better now and hopeful future.

I am asking anyone who knows where one can see the film "Playing for Keeps: The Upside of Downtime”, to post it on the info page so that we all can see it.

Jamie Redford is an American hero taking on the task of merging art and science.  I am ever grateful to him for making PAPER TIGERS and RESILIENCE and helping us give a voice to the ACEs movement.

Heartbroken.  Not other word can describe this loss of such a gentle soul and humanitarian.  I will never forget that night in San Francisco when we went to dinner together after the film talk with you two and Dr. Nadine Burke Harris.  So grateful he lived.  He touched so many in our world.  He made our world a better place.  He came, he was loved and he gave love.  A life well lived but oh, too short.

I had the honor of chatting with him for a long time at a reception following the screening he and Nadine Burke Harris did of Resilience in Albany in 2017. He was so down to earth, sincere and honestly interested in so many different things.  This feels tragic. We will miss you dearly Jamie but thank you for contributing so much to the world. I feel my career trajectory was definitely impacted by the film and that chat. Presente!

We stand on the shoulders of giants.

Bless him and those he loved and that loved him.

A world is changed by his having been through it. And it will continue to be changed by his influence.

Fair skies and following winds.

Such sad news. Though we never met, Jamie was such a champion of trauma informed care and ACEs.  His films have inspired thousands individually and many communities to pay attention to this science.  I recommend using them in the toolkit I co-authored on how to trauma inform a community as well as in many of my presentations. In 2017 when I first began working with a local Alternative High School - it was “Paper Tigers” that inspired our work. After we began to see some amazing outcomes, I emailed Jim Sporleder to thank him for putting their story into film.   He shared my note with Jamie who kindly wrote both myself and the school Principal to cheer us on ❤️  God bless you Jamie.  Your family and ACEs friends are in my thoughts and prayers.
