How To: Search for PACEs Connection Members by geography

The PACEs Connection Member search function allows members to see who's in a particular zip code (exact), and within 1, 5, 10, 25, 50 or 100 miles of that zip code. Here's how it works:

1. Click on Members in the top navigation bar.

2. Click on Advanced Member Search in right navigation bar.

3. Click on Search By Geographical Data (Postal Code and Country).

4. Select a country, type in zip code, choose search diameter (exact, or within 1, 5, 10, 25, 50 or 100 miles). The database includes new postal codes in the US and Canada and includes many international countries as well.

5. Choose Map or List Results.

Map results will show pinpoints for individuals if you're searching for all the people within that zip code (exact). If you're searching outside the zip code (1, 5, 10, 25, 50 or 100 mile radius), then each pinpoint represents a zip code, and it will contain a list of all the people within that zip code.

List results will show a list of all the members in whatever search parameter you choose, but will not separate them into different zip codes.

If you've done a Map search, and then want to see the same search results as List, you have to start over (i.e., click on Members in the top blue navigation bar, then click on Advanced Member Search in right navigation bar).

Note #1: You can search for members using any of the search fields (e.g., Dana and San Diego County will get you two Danas, including Dana Brown), but if you're looking for a member within a specific geographic area, it's best to use the Search by Geographic Data method. That's most accurate. Here's what happens when you search for all members using the Location field: If you enter Los Angeles, California, the list and map will show everyone in Los Angeles, and in California, and in Los Alamos. If you search for all members using the County field, e.g., Los Angeles County, you'll get all members who've signed up for ACEsConnection since we added that field, which was last year (2015). So, it'll miss a bunch of people.

Note #2: The Google Map version of the display is still limited to at most 5,000 members, however, so unfortunately the site-wide map-view of the Member Directory is limited to the high level breakdown by states and countries. It's not practical to show more than 5,000 members on a Google map because it would take too long to load. However, the map will work in any group with less than 5,000 members, and a search of the entire membership directory if the result is less than 5,000 members.
