HOPE Certificate Programs - Year in Review [positiveexperience.org]

The HOPE National Resource Center (NRC) began the Train the Facilitator program in August, 2021. Since that time, HOPE has certified 154 people to provide the Introduction to HOPE, with another 96 people either currently in process or registered to begin the training in the coming months. We have also added a second-level certification, HOPE Champions, for our Facilitators who want to go beyond the introduction and provide HOPEful technical assistance. Since launching this summer, the program has certified over 30 members. Our HOPE Champions work within their community to help organizations change their forms, revise their policies, train their staff, and create an internal culture of HOPE. Since HOPE is a flexible framework that looks really different community to community and sector to sector, having local Facilitators and Champions across the country allows HOPE to spread to a culturally and community-resonant way.

I've looked over the HOPE materials and they're dangerously close to toxic positivity.

I know you all hate to here this message, but for certain people/clients/service users (not all, some) messages like the HOPE are filled with personal responsibility suggestions and insistence that help is clearly out there if you just ask.

The first note is , for certain clients/service users, downright shaming. Ignores the "what happened to you" aspect of framing emotional distress as a societal problem needing societal solutions. Trauma is not your fault, period.

The "help is clearly out there" is not true for everyone, and your industry continues to ignore the thousands of monthly reports of failed help feedback, and continues to refuse to engage respectfully with that feedback and instead just gets defensive and hostile.

My hope is that you finally turn the ship around on these points.
