"Four Good Days" movie inspires "Addiction. No Shame" webinar with true addiction experts — the people portrayed in the film, plus Dr. Gabor Maté

Have you ever suffered from the shame of addiction or at a complete loss about how to help someone you love who is struggling with addiction?

More than 200 people are dying every day from drug overdose, according to the CDC — 81,000 each year, most due to opioids. The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism says that 23 million adults ARE struggling with substance abuse.

Join us on June 23 for a real and honest conversation that will enlighten, inspire and leave us feeling connected, loved and hopeful!

Our guests include Amanda Wendler and Libby Alexander, who are the real mother and daughter portrayed by Glenn Close and Mila Kunis in the new film Four Good Days. Also joining the conversation are Dr. Gabor Maté, author of In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts, and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Elis Saslow, whose article, "'How's Amanda?' A story of truth, lies and an American addiction", inspired the film made by Director Rodrigo Garcia.

One can receive strong suggestions (from everywhere) to “get therapy”, as though anyone can access it, regardless of the $150-$200 an hour rate. For me, even worse is the fact that payment is for a product/transaction for which there’s only one party that is always a winner — the therapist’s bank account.

For the last two decades or so, I have been seriously considering hypnosis, perhaps a hypnotic suggestion, though I'd have to be sedated to some degree due to my chronically anxious and restless/racing-thoughts nature.

Hello Frank Serle Jr, Dr Mate is a Legend in his own time in regards to Trauma and Early Childhood.  I have been listening to him for 5 years now and I have purchased his books along with materials that have been published by other visionaries that he is affiliated with.

A lot of times a book will just not give the answers we want or desire as Children of Trauma have found out.  The books are a good reference material to read and look at, but most trauma will have to be remembered and then integrated into a program of recovery that you feel most comfortable with.  There are many avenues you can explore, Adult Children of Alcoholics is a good group, some people work with Hypnotists and some work with private Therapists.  There is no fast and true way to get to the heart and recovery of the trauma by reading a book underlining passages that you think might be relevant.

The mind and ego and soul are not working together on us finding out how trauma started, continued or may end.  We need people that when they are working with us can either push us forward into rememory or help us back off and take a break.

Hope this helps

MM

I’d really like Mr. Mate (or another relevant specialist/author) to pen a book on high-scoring adverse childhood experience trauma resulting from a highly sensitive and low self-confidence existence, especially when its effect is amplified by an accompanying autism spectrum disorder.

This, of course, can readily lead to an adulthood of various forms of hazardous self-medicating. As a highly sensitive child, teenager and adult with ASD compounded by a high ACE score, I largely learned this for myself throughout my adult life. It’s what I consider to be a perfect-storm condition with which I greatly struggled yet of which I was not aware until I was a half-century old. If one has diagnosed and treated such a condition when very young, he/she will be much better able to deal with the scourge throughout their life.

Almost forgot about registering for this webinar but got in on time.  Did not know that I could also order the whole previous 6 episodes that go with number 7 today so I went to the store and also ordered all the previous episodes.  This is a very important topic for my health and recovery.  Thank you so much for featuring this, but there does not seem to be any support for talking about this subject here at PACE unless I am just not in touch with the correct Community here.

Thank you so much

MM
