Flourishing Families, Centering Justice: Policy solutions for prevention-focused, trauma-informed supports for children and families (Webinar recording now available!)

Over 130 people gathered on November 1, 2022, to learn more about how to create a system that supports child and family well-being during the 4CA Flourishing Families, Centering Justice webinar. The event focused on trauma-informed primary, secondary, and tertiary policy approaches to support struggling families and keep them together. The webinar began with a brief overview of historical and current policies that have contributed to racism, inequity, and family separation in the United States and in the Child Welfare system in particular. The panel that followed shared examples of policies that can strengthen and support families both in our communities and in the Child Welfare system.

If you were not able to attend, we invite you to watch a recording of the webinar, access a PDF of the slides, and view all of the resources provided by speakers on Catalyst Center’s Flourishing Families, Centering Justice Teachable site.

The event was moderated by Cornelle Jenkins of the Catalyst Center and included the following presentations:

  • Policy Relevance and History of Social Policy and Child Protection in the U.S.
    • Donielle Prince, Director of State Initiatives & Community Organizing, PACEs Connection
  • Strengthening Economic Supports for Families

The California Campaign to Counter Childhood Adversity (4CA) is a statewide initiative that has worked since 2016 to build connections between and across systems with the core mission of preventing, treating, and healing adverse childhood experiences through education and advocacy of trauma informed policy across sectors. In the past, 4CA hosted annual policymaker education days at the Capitol; since 2020, we have hosted 2-3 webinar discussions each year for our membership and the public.
