Bibliography of Clergy Sexual Abuse and Sexual Boundary Violations

The Annotated Bibliography of Clergy Sexual Abuse and Sexual Boundary Violations in Religious Communities is a comprehensive resource of just about anything and everything that has been published about abuse in religious settings. In September 2021, more than 80 new additions were made to the bibliography which is now 1,890 pages, excluding the introduction.

The bibliography is compiled by Rev. James Evinger, a Presbyterian minister who has been involved with cases of sexual boundary violations in religious communities since 1995, focusing on intervention and prevention. It is available, without charge, on the Faith Trust Institute website. You can access the newest edition here: https://www.faithtrustinstitute.org/blog/276

In the blog announcing the recent additions to the bibliography, Evinger highlighted ten of the 80 documents. I was honored that my memoir, Things Fell Apart, but the Center Held was one of the ten.  https://bit.ly/diannesmemoir

Evinger had this to say about the reasons there was such a large number of documents added at this time:

"Numerical growth since inception in 1995 documents the global attention to the problem of sexual boundary violations in faith communities.  Growth also reflects the increased quality of knowledge thanks to multi-disciplinary perspectives, as well as substantiation of best practices for prevention and intervention, holding offenders accountable, and supporting the recovery and healing of survivors and affected religious and spiritual communities. These results reflect the direct and constructive impact of survivors’ participation and advocacy." (Underlinings are mine.)

I thought that paragraph also summed up the focus of the PACEs Connection!
